Our Progressive Dog Training and Kennel Management Program is a four-week course of study, during
which you will be taught numerous subjects that relate to the services we offer at the
kennel. However, while you are here, we will also expose you to various other areas in the
field so that you will be aware of the variety of options you have to work with. These are the subjects we will study
Training: We will teach you how to train dogs in
obedience for the public. This is an area of demand in the business. You will learn how to
teach the dog, as well as the student, in a variety of ways, such as one-on-one training,
and in group sessions. You will also learn how to counsel people about training and do
problem solving for them. We will also work on advanced forms of training such as AKC
Showing and Agility levels of work. Not only are these challenging, they are also a lot of
fun.
Grooming: You're not going to walk out a
full-fledged groomer, but we will put you in our grooming shop with our groomer where she
will teach you the fundamentals of grooming dogs and cats from basic baths to clips. She
will also teach you about the equipment and the business of grooming.
Kennel Management: Owning and running a kennel is
fun but very hard work. A kennel is a 365-day a year job and makes its money over
holidays, so if you don't mind this kind of work, you will succeed as a kennel owner.
After 19 years of operating a kennel we can show you what has worked for us and what has
not. You will learn the day-to-day cleaning and operations along with the record keeping
and employee relations. There are numerous ways to offer pet boarding for people who put
their trust in you to watch over their pets when they travel. The boarding kennel industry
is growing and the demand for good kennels is out there.
Police, Protection, Schutzhund, and Security Training:
Our specialty at Kromerhaus Training Kennel Inc. is in this field. We train for many law enforcement
agencies, prisons and security firms throughout the Eastern United States. Although not
everybody is always interested in this subject, it is important to us to expose you to
this area because of the level of training that these dogs and handlers must receive. Some
of you might be interested in this as a main topic. We can easily accommodate your desires
here. We are also avid Schutzhund trainers and competitors. Schutzhund is a very fast
growing dog sport in the US and we are right up there with the times on this very
interesting sport.
First Aid, Health Care, and Medical: We have a
veterinarian or veterinarian technician come in and teach you the important health care
and medical concerns. We also give a first aid class on dogs so you will know how to react
in case of an emergency. We also teach you what to have in a first aid kit for dogs and
kennels. We are located right next door to a large animal hospital which staffs up to 10
veterinarians at one time. Over the years, our rapport with them has grown tremendously.
